Scarf

As you pull the cloth around your neck
do you wonder how it came to be woven
the warp and weft so secretly spoken
like an encirclement of dreams
that tease you at morning coffee

What did you say to her last night
as the gray clouds descended
and the stars were hidden one by one
did you have the courage
to tell her that you were afraid

Propinquity

I was exposed
pulled through the keyhole
and served up to her imagination
dusted with a shaking fervor
that sprung my boyhood politeness

her smile was beyond my capacity
the way it stood to reason
bending my senses into perplexity
it would have be easier to unravel a mare's tail

it was senseless to disregard the obvious
the change in the color of love
like late afternoon clouds
turned ferocious by the sun
