Morning Dew

When dew penetrates your pants
and briers tear your laces
when the posted crow has told the world
that you are about
there is still that need to go forth in silence
to buoy your peace of mind
for what you see in your soul's quiet
is the early reckoning of your destiny
the hint of what is to come

Less Than Zero

Away from the weight of the sun
I had the horizon well in my grasp
until the moment it blurred and my fingers twitched
no doubt a reaction to the subordination
of perspective to imagination

We have to give a certain amount of what we have gained
in order to keep the basket from overflowing
yet some value fullness as measured in excess
others know that tucked within the whimsy of homespun adage
is the truth of less than zero

Desire

You play my shade like a favorite song
a comfortable price to pay for "perhaps tomorrow"
borrow my pillow when it suits your need
yet mistrust my intentions when I change the case

I watched you yesterday changing with the leaves in the park
bewitching the season the same as you frame me in our past
except our moment left a stain, no sacrifice goes unnoticed
locks let go their hasp whenever desire is in the air

Blush

I dreamed I was an atmosphere
that only you could breath
my stars were glitter on your cheeks
and you were the radiance that lit the world
I am a camera for your smile
a guiltless pleasure in this anxious world
that is quick to assign sin to eyes
caught looking at innocent beauty
looking at you is what I like looking at
and you are what I need to feel
when my feelings are rampant

Without Regret

The summer night's
floating cloud of dreams
your body pressed against me
and sleep without regret
in the distance thunder is a voice beckoning
to the path between the senses

The brush whispers to the canvas
what it has found upon the palette
and reveals the secrets of the artist
so your secrets are revealed to me
in the damp of the sheets and your soft sigh
as I dream of you I dream a poem
