What The Other Side Feels Like

Hollow hours listening for reasons
staring through the porch screen
as though they would sweep in with the flies
that find the holes as easily as my neglect let them happen

Dust settles when the breeze is light
keep moving it'll turn to dirt in your sweat
when I hit the road I'll have no choice
but to beg forgiveness of myself
for having doubts

The Speed Of Love

Once when I was all together
a perfect sail that mocked the wind
with every seam hid beneath a sheen of wax
my words taught the razor how to slice

Then did I taste the speed of love
and found myself lacking
even the rudiments of self direction
which way does one turn
when one is turned inside out

My head is upon a stone
and you would read to me
have your years bitten into you
so that you would teach me a lesson
or have they been kind
so that you would make me a pillow

The Passage of Thoughts That Matter

A chance touch
subtle as the moon's reflection
on a rain dimpled pond

wherever my hand paused
a catch in breath

releasing slowly
with the passage of thoughts
that matter

Insouciance

Insouciance
if you do not know the meaning
you are probably to busy
selling your life for money

Let me tell you a little secret
nobody really has a free pass
but romantics are on to the farce
and don't waste time on the proving ground

We're ready at the drop of a hint
to loose our wiles upon one another
I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours
and we savor the in-between

Ever ready to part our needs
we stroke our tensions
into a pliancy of desire
as subtle as the dampness of an imagined kiss

Lines

I wake to the purpose
measure the lines
my hands less shaky
I've patched my frail thoughts
determined to learn you
as my caution abates
and I watch what you see

When did you first realize
that I hide my fears
behind words

Mutual Feelings

How did she know to apply the tourniquet
keeping the last of his soul from leaking out
a prescription for sensual regeneration
and sensuous connection

Was it her innate ability to heal
a boy damaged by reckless trespass
or perhaps her need to nurse them both
through a coincidence of mutual feelings

Fungus Fungus

Your entourage was famous
for its ability to blend into your need
a snap of your mind
and their thoughts scattered accordingly

I wanted to be the different one
and settle into a fold
that you had forgotten was is in your apron
a waking thought that brought a smile

I watched you wrestle yourself to a draw
hidden beneath your covers
I was there beneath your pillow
the only cool in the heat of your exasperation

But I was not enough
nothing is enough when there is fungus upon fungus
and souls deteriorates at the speed of disbelief
leaving love a windblown foam on a litter strewn beach

How is it that soft blue eyes can focus through tears
and mine just become caked with the salt of suspense
I thought I was tending the garden
curse me if I was only tending our appetites

I've let the garden go fallow
but I like to think of all those seeds
waiting for a turn of the earth to spring forth
just as my heart will lie dormant until it feels your touch
