Chance Encounters

If it were easy to bend someone to your will
have them sign on the dotted line
you could pursue a path to riches
possess the grail of gratification

But there is often a juxtaposition
of the expected and the unexpected
each falling neatly into the shadow of the other
and casting suspicions that put people at odds
and deals to death

Yet sometimes chance encounters
of players from opposing sides
offer a moment to see beyond the goal
to subtract treasure from the equation
and obviate the need for competition
replacing it with fragrant remedies
and the glow that comes with faith

Players from the opposing side
have yet by chance to encounter
One so likely to bend their will
Your gentle voice, your honest warmth,
your effortless ease
your notice of the bluebirds return
your love of the written word and
your hushed reverence for the past.
Eyes closed, your face raised to the sun
made us realize that we could
happily sign on your dotted line...

Last night when I was listening to Paul these lyrics stuck in my head and stayed with me today.

"Do your dreams ever take you back when love was new...

does your heart ever long for those days when love was true..."

It sweeps over you.
