Fingers

The hammer falls on unsuspecting fingers
raising blisters that can't be hidden
blood may dry in the path of the callous
but tenderness ravaged never heals

A bandage is not a mark of honor
nor is insouciance a sign of the brave
when you strike at someone's heart
it's not their good luck that you miss
the strike is deadly regardless of aim
